Arrival to Camp

It was a sunny 81 degrees on Tuesday, July 22 and the UCSB campus was a buzz of excitement and energy! The CADA Staff was excited to welcome over 500 student leaders and advisors to our Game On CADA Leadership Camp 3! We helped everyone to register and then they got to eat a pic-nic lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, salad, watermelon and cookies while listening to the tunes of DJ Doug and the fun MC and games Ron and Sidus! The schools were posing for pictures and sharing their cheers and we were excited to break into our councils and get this CADA camp GAME ON!

Staff Relations

According to this years, CADA Leadership Camp binder there are plenty of ways to improve staff relations, you just need to be creative! Here are some of my favorite examples to show staff appreciation:
1) Staff Bio Board - create a bio board rotating staff members each month with different information each month, e.g. favorite music/vacation locations/movies and display in high traffic areas.
2) Windshield cleaning service - was staff'a car windshields leaving a cute note on their windshield.
3) "Lunch for the Ladies" - treat the food service workers by preparing them a nice lunch. Don't forget to decorate the table with name plates and personalized place mats.
4) Turkey feathers - pieces of paper are cut in the shape of a feather & ASB sells them for $.25. After they are sold the kids give them to their favorite teacher. The teacher with the most feather receives a gift certificate to a grocery store for any of their needs before Thanksgiving.
5) "Dream Destination" - staff fill out forms on their dream destination and students decorate their desk area with items/food/decorations, e.g. Hawaii w/ leis, sarongs, fresh tropical fruit & shells

CADA Camp II raised $765.00 in honor of Katie Cooper, who was a victim of the UCSB shootings. We will be donating books to the Cottage Children's Hospital in Santa Barbara. Monies also raised will be given to the family to purchase books for St Jude which was one of Katie's favorite charity. 

Goal Setting Notebook Section

Goal setting is a very important concept. It's a way to keep you extremely organized and know exactly what you want to be successful with. Having a goal makes you want to reach harder for what you want to achieve. You want to set a pathway to success and it helps you stay on task. It's also good to have personal goals. Having a personal goal can help you develop plans and get to where you want to be not only in ASB but also in everyday life. Something I learned out of my CADA binder is that successful goals need ownership, to be based on your value, commitment, belief you can accomplish the goal, a vivid image of the outcome, to be written, to be checked for progress, take action to identify and eliminate obstacles, keep the end in mind and reward yourself and to be periodically reviewed. Goal setting is so important in so many different levels and I think the year will go by much smoother with many goals set. Nido Qubein once said, "When a goal matters enough to a person, that person will find a way to accomplish what at first seemed impossible."
