Speaker Kevin Laue

If you want to lead, lead by example:
The evening of the second day at CADA leadership Camp was a very insightful experience. All the campers were privileged to hear the inspiring words of Kevin Laue. His "nub" grew quite the crowd and everyone became amazed at his story. Not only did he accomplish his dream of making division 1 basketball, may I mention he had a heck of a journey getting there. However, he learned how to deal with his imperfections and moved many youths of today. Kevin used his lost arm as a bonus to inspire others and wanting them to follow in his path. Kevin Laue has become a well-known leader who has never stopped fighting when the going gets tough, as well as always doing the right thing. We thank Kevin Laue for speaking to our CADA Leadership Camp 2 and having the ability to move so many in the words he speaks.

ASB President Gathering

I had the opportunity to spend an hour with all of the ASB Presidents talking about many different roles as an ASB President. We sat in a circle and took notes on the board about concerns and questions we had; then, we talked about it. Talking with other presidents was a great way to see how they run their class and what they want to accomplish. We all related in so many different ways and weren't afraid to share our thoughts. One thing we went over was what you can do to have less friction between the class. Someone shared that you can come up with activities that bring everyone together so people can relate and know that they are there for each other. One thing that I learned is that as a president, every day, you have to walk into the classroom with a big smile on your face and a great attitude so everyone has the same attitude towards you. And always remember, if you want something to happen, make it happen.

Back to Basics

In the San Miguel Rec. Room, councils gather together to listen to a first
hand account from an ASB advisor on the basics of leadership. We learned
helpful communication skills such as how to properly use a microphone or
teamwork such as the importance of coming together as one for a common goal. Students interacted constantly, enthusiastically participating and sharing their thoughts.

Community Service Project

Katie was involved in her High School as well as at UCSB. Sadly, she was one of the innocent victims who lost her life here in the massacre that killed 6 students. Katie's mom, Kelli, is an ASB secretary and a member of CADA. The family is asking for people to donate books to local charities in her honor.  CADA Camp II Community Service project will donate the books to Cottage Children's Hospital in Santa Barbara. Please donate monies in your councils. Council 17 will be collecting the monies and book tags during Sixth Council tomorrow. Katie's family thanks you from the bottom of their hearts.  You are awesome student leaders. 

Lunchtime!!!

I was on the scene at CADA's first official lunch at the eating commons. There were plenty of options with plenty of diversity to follow. We had sandwich galore with do it yourself burgers and for those with a childhood sense of wonder, some ham and cheese sandwiches on wheat. There was also a taste of Asia with chicken fried rice and chowmein mixed in with veggies. And to top with off, there was some Mexican fare with tacos, enchiladas and some good old Italian taste with some pizza. The student leaders and adults of CADA were also enjoying their meals with comments of great tasting food, great service, and the plentiful options there were. Last but not least, we had many student leaders enjoying themselves outside the commons, playing games like dodge ball and volleyball and doing flash mobs of the dancing variety.

Remember when we first arrived?

Fun, games, music and food were all waiting to greet our awesome CADA campers yesterday. Upon their arrival students couldn't help but feel the overwhelming sense of spirit and fun as they raced through bouncy obstacle courses or took part in bouncy house gladiator fights. The fun didn't stop there by any means. Ice breakers filled with hidden lessons opened up the festivities and set the tone for the CADA experience. Stay loud, stay proud, and be the leader you know you can be campers! 

First Breakfast Meal at Camp

On this second day of camp the student leaders are up bright and early all dressed in their matching bright blue "Game On" CADA shirts. While some kids are all bright and cheery most are still trying to recover from the hectic day of yesterday! All though most kids are still half asleep, the great breakfast was a good way to be woken up. Some of the more popular items this morning in the DLG Dining were the wide range of fresh produce, the crispy waffles with the sweet syrup, and the hot sizzling bacon!
